Brains of nursing moms more aware of baby's cries
Wed May 25, 2011
Babies are designed to stay in our bodies for about 9 months, nourished and warm. Saying that this is the norm does not cause women to freak out and write rants about how they had no choice when their preemies were born early and had to use an incubator instead of their uterus.
Books for Christmas?! Three-year-old is NOT impressed
Tue Dec 21, 2010
Dunno, there is something to be said for teaching a kid early to be grateful for any gift - and for not using the word poop unless he wants to be carted off to the bathroom. www.raisingstinker.com
For air travelers, small affronts start to add up
Tue Nov 23, 2010
In California, employers can not knowingly expose their employees to sexual physical contact by a third party. I wonder how this might affect the air travel market. http://www.careertuning.com/1511/tsa-groping-can-employees-be-forced-to-fly/
Crib notes: A dad's advice on raising boys and the IRS on breast-feeding
Tue Jan 25, 2011
What horrified me most about the IRS breast pump decision is that the IRS is okay allowing another type of pump to get the deduction - penis pumps. I wish I was kidding.
Crib notes: Killer coffee tables, uterus rent and scary mommies
Mon Jan 3, 2011
It seems that if men need something, anything, regarding their reproductive health, be it Viagra or a penis pump, insurance companies and even the government support it with insurance or tax breaks.
What do you think of the 'twiblings' story?
Tue Jan 4, 2011
As I believe she mentions in her article, there are not that many babies up for adoption thee days. Fewer and fewer US babies are available to adopt each year and more other countries are closing the doors on international adoptions.
Crib notes: Online dating for pre-tweens, science smarties and pot while pregnant

The links to these articles seem to be malfunctioning - it keeps asking me to log onto outlook! Here is the correct link for the story about the breastfed boys: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6BK4K120101221 I'll try to find the others...
Donor milk may lack key nutrients for preemies
Mon Dec 6, 2010
Except in very special circumstances, my understanding is that the donated milk from the mom of a 13-month-old is in the same stockpile as the milk from the mom of a 2-month-old. As the article says, milk changes as the babies of the nursing mom ages.
Sharing breast milk: The FDA and the 'ick' factor
Mon Dec 6, 2010
So true - my child was allergic to so many foods that we chose to breastfeed while we eliminated all dairy, soy, wheat and eggs from my diet. The entire family saw a huge decrease in digestive issues with these ingredients out of the house.
Did you fear childbirth? Share your story!
Fri Dec 3, 2010
The resident who handled my first child's delivery (after my doc never showed) was terrifying, and I really felt robbed of the experience I think i could have had with a more caring staff. Now that I'm pregnant again, I don't think I can relax in a hospital so we're going to use a birthing center.

I think this is a beautiful story that again highlights that family can mean very different things for children.
Death to Disney princesses?
Aw, it’s cute! Little girls love princesses.
Dress-up is fun, but girls need to be taught that looks are fleeting, brains are forever, and they need to be ready to be their own heroes.

Silent birth: Maybe not so crazy?
Actually, that's not a bad idea. Everybody hush!
During my last delivery, all I wanted was to be left alone to concentrate, but found it impossible in a hospital!
